Once while studying, a child asked his brother why he should study sincerely.
His brother replied, "You should study sincerely so that you do well in exams."
His brother's answer made no sense to the child, "Then why should I do well in exams?" he thought, but he didn't say much and went back to his studies.
At school he asked his teacher, "Why should I study sincerely?"
His teacher replied, "So that you get a good career."
The child wasn't satisfied with the answer he had got.
He he asked his father, "Why should I do well in exams?"
His Father replied, "So that you get a good career."
"The same old answer!" he thought. "Then why should I get a good career?" he asked in more curiosity.
"If you get a good career, you will get a good amount of money, then you'll be happy."
His father's answer confused him, he thought, "I like watching clouds ~ that makes me happy. Then why should I study, do well in exams, get a good career and then be happy? Its easier to watch clouds and be happy rather than do all that and then be happy."
That following summer, he went to his small native village. There he saw a Guru teaching children.
He asked that Guru, "Why should I study sincerely?"
The Guru replied, "You should study sincerely to get more knowledge. Acquiring good knowledge will get you closer to removing the blindfold on your eyes, which has been tied to each and every one of us, which will enable you to see life more clearly and live it to the fullest."
The child may not have understood the true meaning behind the Guru's words, but he was surely satisfied with the answer he had received. The impact of the answer grew, just as his age did.
