A little boy was playing with a new light switch installed in the house family room. The door was open just a crack and he was twisting the twisty-switch dimming the lights and then gradually brightening them. The lights in the living room outside were on. As he did so he noticed through the door crack that as he dimmed the lights, the lights outside would seem quite bright through the crack. As he brightened them a bit more he observed that the lights were as bright as the lights in the room. And as he brightened them even more, it seemed as if the lights outside were dimming.
When we're faced with certain conditions, how austere the condition seems depends on who you are ~ how bright your lights are, and what the situation is ~ how bright the outside lights are. Seldom, our light is too dull, and the lights outside just seem too bright for us to maneuver with. Every so often, both the lights are of equal intensity, letting us through with not too much struggle. As though many times, our light is so brilliant as compared to the one outside, that getting the work done is easier than a walk in the park.
